Q Is there a cost ?
A We offer a Free confidential service.
Q Can I bring a support person ?
A Yes, this is encouraged.
Q Will others know I am coming ?
A Masterton is a small place and you may meet other clients in the waiting room, however, you may be at Wairarapa Addiction Service Incorporated for many reasons.
Q Can I just walk in the door ?
A Yes, self-referrals are welcome.
Q What hours are you open ?
A 8.30am to 5.00pm.
Q Are your staff qualified ?
A All staff are fully qualified ? their certificates are on display in their rooms. A profile for each of our staff can be seen on the Team page
Q Will I really have to give up drinking / gambling completely ?
A No, our philosophy is one of harm reduction although abstinence may be part of this.
Q Is there a capped number of sessions ?
A No, each case is individually assessed.
Q If I am worried about my partner can I come and see you ?
A We offer a service for significant others and whanau / family.
Q Do you do home visits ?
A Yes, when it is assessed as necessary and suitable.
Q Have you got an 0800 number ?
A No, but there is an 0800 number for the National Alcohol and Drug Helpline which is 0800 787 797 and another for the Gambling Helpline which is 0800 654 655.
Q Are there support groups ?
A Yes. To see a list of some of the Groups that are available on the Groups available
Q Can I request a female, male counsellor or have cultural choice ?
A Yes, we have a mix of genders working here and we can refer on to a Maori agency.
Q Do you have interpreters ?
A We can access these through Wairarapa District Health Board.
Q Is there a waiting list ?
A A small one, from time to time. Waiting lists for Methadone Programme vary.
Q What happens when I come to the service ?
A A complete comprehensive assessment will occur and information about the service will be given and a treatment plan developed.
Q Confidentiality - will you tell the police if I divulge ?
A No way! We wouldn?t have any clients if we did this.
Q Do you have a youth service ?
A Yes, we employ a fulltime youth counsellor and can see youth at their school.
Q Can I see my notes ?
A Notes are available on request. There is a form to fill out and you see them in the presence of your case manager.
Q Can you manage my money ?
A No, however, we can refer you to a Free Budget Service.
Q What resources are available ?
A Videos, booklets etc.
Q Do you work with other community agencies ?
A Yes, we often share clients and do interagency counselling.
Q What does AOD mean?
A AOD is an abbreviation for Alcohol and Other Drugs.
