Detox and Referals

We home-visit or see people at the centre when they want to stop using any drugs that they are dependent on. For example alcohol, cannabis, opioids (methadone, morphine etc) and benzodiazepines.

We can offer a detoxification either in your home, a local respite house or in a hospital bed. The detoxification takes 5-10 days and during this time you will be monitored and given supportive holistic interventions.

Besides offering a medical approach (medications for the withdrawal symptoms) we have complimentary therapies; nutritional herbal supplements, acupressure pressure for sleep, an Infrared sauna and reiki.

Once you are through your detox you will be followed up to see how things are going, offered counselling and the option of further intensive input in a rehabilitation facility.

The three most commonly used recreational drugs are Nicotine, Alcohol and Cannabis. Below are some of the common withdrawal symptoms for each drug, our detox programmes will help reduce many of these effects.

Nicotine Withdrawal Symptons you may experience

Nicotine withdrawal starts very promptly after cessation of smoking - within two hours in some cases. It peaks within 24 - 48 hours and then gradually subsides over the next few weeks. Symptons of nicotine withdrawal include:

  • irritability and restlessness
  • decreased metabolic rate and increased appetite
  • increased coughing
  • tremors
  • anxiety
  • insomnia
  • headaches
  • aggressiveness
  • confusion and dizziness
  • inability to concentrate
  • constipation
  • sweating

Alcohol Withdrawal Symptons you may experience

  • A rapid heartbeat or fast pulse, also known as tachycardia
  • Dehydration, or dry skin
  • You may have the shakes or a tremor
  • Stomach upsets such as nausea and vomiting
  • Profuse sweating, maybe even a fever
  • Headaches are not unusual
  • You may become confused and not know where you are (disorientated)
  • You may be hypersensitive to noises, light or shadows
  • You may experience a generalised weakness
  • You may become angry or depressed

Seizures are possible & backup maybe necessary

Cannabis Withdrawal Symptons you may experience

A cannabis withdrawal syndrome has been clearly described. The main features of cannabis withdrawal appear to be:

  • imsomnia
  • irritability
  • anorexia

It is unclear how common it is or what level and duration of cannabis use is needed to produce it.
